Dear Alin (and to some girls who private msged me looong time ago), here's the entry about makeup that u girls been wanting me to post before. Sorry yer, lambat sket. To tell u the truth, I'm not really that expert in makeup but I'll share whatever tips that I know. Just as a reminder, this makeup tips that I'm giving is only the basic and simple ways that I practiced. If u wanna go for smokey eyes or bronzing looks, don't ask me! ;p
Okay, first things first. Use a moisturizer as the base. Personally, I think using a moisturizer makes it a lot easier to apply makeup on (if u don't wish to wear foundation). Next, slather on the foundation - dot some on the nose, forehead, chin and both cheeks and blend it outwards using a sponge or ur fingertips. According to my sis who took grooming classes before, the best foundation type is the cream type (but it also depends on what type of skin u have) and use a sponge to blend it to give a more natural finish. But I personally prefer not to wear foundation as it makes my skin feels heavy and cakey. Foundation is needed to ratakan ur skin color and texture, and to make ur makeup stays longer. So if u girls have naturally toned skin, no need to apply foundation then!
Next, dab on concealer to the area that needs to be covered up - eg: pimples, scars, etc. NEVER apply concealer under foundation as it will only rubs it off. I prefer using fingertips rather than brushes to apply concealer. After that, dust on some loose powder to give a more natural, flawless finish. Compact powder on the other hand, is only to be used as a touch-up tool (that's according to Lancome's makeup artist who maked me up masa makeover dulu).
Then, comes the eyeshadow. Start by defining the shapes and sizes of ur eyes - almond, round, narrow, big, small, sepet, large or small eyelids, etc. To me, the key to a beautifully done makeup is to balance out the details of ur eyes and lips (think Christina Aguilera for her heavy makeups on both her eyes n lips. Yuck!). Like for eg, if u're applying a heavy makeup for ur eyes, try on something lighter for ur lips and vice versa. U can also apply light makeup for both eyes n lips for that au naturel look (which I always do). Try playing around with colors to find what looks best on u. Here are just few basic rules of applying eyeshadows:

Here are just few basic rules of applying eyeshadows:
1) Almond-shaped eyes:
Apply the darkest tone at the outer edge of the eye lid and half way up to the crease. Apply the lightest tone at the inner edge of the lid. (my personal fave way).
2) Narrow-shaped eyes:
Use dark tones on the crease and keep them very close to the lash line. U can highlight under your brow bone as well.
(no picture available)
3) Round-shaped eyes:
Apply the deepest tone towards the center of the eye and blend upwards from lids to crease.
4) Large lids:
Graduate the tones, starting with an eyeliner then fill the lids with colors to create depth.
5) Small lids:
Use light tones and an eyeliner to make your eyes appear bigger. Dark tones will only make ur eyes look smaller.
(macam hantu kucing nyer mata tak? ;p)
After applying eyeshadow, use an eyeliner. The intensity of applying eyeliner also depends on the size and shape of ur eyes. Remember, eyeliners are for outlining ur eyes so the bigger ur eyes are, the lesser eyeliner u need to apply on or u'll end up looking like a racoon's eyes. If u're a first-timer, try a pencil eyeliner instead of liquid ones as they're kinda hard and messy to use.
Then, apply mascara (my most fave makeup tool!) on ur lashes. Mascara enhances ur peepers, and personally (n according to some beauty mags too) mascara perks up ur looks so if u don't wanna use eyeshadows, applying mascara only will do just fine. *wink wink* To me, eyes are the most important feature to a beautiful look coz eyes are the windows to the soul, so it catches the attention.
Next, dab on some blusher on the apple of ur cheeks for that rosy effect. I often skip this step coz umm...malas! huhu. How to find the right shade for ur skin? Easy-peasy. Just pinch ur cheeks (not too hard) and the reddish color that appears on ur skin is the right shade for u. Try opting for a shade that matches slightly darker than ur pinched-cheek color, but not too dark for u will look macam baru lepas kne belasah (remember Bridget Jones' makeup in the Edge of Reason where she attended the party? Uh huh, that look!).
The last step: use a lipbalm, then apply on some lipstick (u can mix few colors if u want according to ur liking). Finish it off with a touch of lipgloss for that ooh-so-sexy pout and voila ~ u're ready to face the world! =)
Remember, u wear the makeup; don't let ur makeup wears u - don't wear too much!
* A good makeup brand is the ones which only specifies in makeup range only and nothing else (Bobbi Brown, MAC, MakeupForever, Stila, Shades BeverlyHills, just to name a few).
